Indians closer Chris Perez has been put on the 15 day disabled list.
Perez has been battling soreness in his right shouler since spring training and it seemed to come to a head in the 9th inning of Sundays game in Boston. After 30 pitches Perez hunched over in pain. Terry Francona and the pitching coach were called out to the mound. After throwing a wild practice pitch to the back stop he was pulled from the game.
Perez this season is 2-1 with a 4.32 ERA and has 6 saves in 8 chances. They were saying on the radio that the number of saves is down from this time last year and Perez said well yeah there has’nt been as many save opportunitys because the team has been playing better this year.
Perez is one of my favorites and I hate seeing this happen to him. He talks a lot of junk that cracks me up and he can back it up because he is a great closer. His last few outings yeah were not great but maybe his shoulder had something to do with it and he thought he could still work it out who knows.
Nick Hagadone once again has been called up from AAA Columbus and Vinnie Pestano, who just came off the DL May 16, will replace Perez as closer.
